Rodeo Week is a big deal in Arizona. Our Viva Rodeo Pop-Up was a HUGE success (blog about this coming soon). We had fun seeing all the cowboys and cowgirls at the parade and Tucson Rodeo. The rodeo festivities continue on! On Saturday, February 25th, the Arizona Informant will host the ARIZONA BLACK RODEO. The Arizona Black Rodeo is one of the largest and most popular African-American events in Arizona, attracting more than 9,000 rodeo fans across a weekend of Western experiences. The AZBR Committee is committed to keeping the contributions of African-American western heritage alive by offering a fun, family-oriented event for residents and visitors alike. For 2016, the group continued to build its reputation as a unique culture and education experience for an audience of all ages (azblackrodeo.wixsite.com/azbr/home).
The Arizona Black Rodeo is held at Rawhide in Chandler, Arizona. My cousin, Bobby Rodriguez brought this rodeo to my attention because last year he participated for his first time as a bullrider. This year, he will participate again! He is bull riding tomorrow, Saturday, February 25th. Check out the flyer below!
Bobby is a Real Time Pain Relief Cowboys Professional Bullrider and is fairly new to the sport. However, he did get his start as a “mutton buster” when he was 4 years old and won that competition when he was 5!
Bobby is a product of southside Tucson, Arizona and is an alumnus of Sunnyside High School and The University of Arizona. After completing his Bachelor’s degree, he moved to Brazil where he rekindled his love for rodeo sports. It was also during this time that Bobby began competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, going on to win the Bronze Medal at the 2015 IBJJF World Championship. In 2016, Bobby decided to take his bull riding to the next level and began competing professionally. Congrats Bobby Rodriguez for following your passion! 🐂✨
My husband and I say that our cousin, Bobby is the modern day ‘Forest Gump.’ Haha We say this because whatever my cousin puts his mind and heart into, he accomplishes it. Bobby has an incredible passion for helping out youth in his local community. He also works in dropout prevention for the Tucson Unified School District and regularly interacts with and mentors youth through athletic training and coaching, JET Multi-Sport Training (www.facebook.com/jetmultisport). We are all so proud of you, Bobby. Keep up the good work!
